McLaren boss Ron Dennis has taken flak for reportedy directing Lewis Hamilton to back off and stay second to current World Champion, Fernando Alonso.
McLaren have every right to look to the best interests of their main sponsor and engine manufacturer, Mercedes Benz, and of course their drivers.
Lewis Hamilton only achieved the second place spot on the starting grid. At one point Alonso was 11.5 seconds ahead of Hamilton. Irrespective as whatever Hamilton may think, he is the No-2 driver with Mercedes McLaren. On the day he was driving like a young man possessed on a circuit that doesn’t take prisoners, if he was intent on overtaking Alonso that may well have amounted to the two team cars crashing….great for McLaren!
While F1 head-honcho, Bernie Ecclestone, reportedly believed McLaren should have been suspended from the current 2007 season, the governing body decided there was no reason for a fine or suspension….and I totally agree!
