F1 - Hypothetical Situation

September 29, 2007

Following the Monaco Grand Prix, Bernie Ecclestone stated that he thought McLaren should have been banned for the rest of the season. The reason, Ron Dennis evidently telling Lewis Hamilton not to try overtaking Alonso. In my opinion that was the correct directive on a track where safe overtaking is virtually impossible. The McLaren drivers taking each other out would hardly have delighted their main sponsors, Mercedes Benz!

When Ferrari obviously told Barrichello to easy up, indeed virtually stop on the line, so as to allow Schumacher to win I can’t recall Bernie offering one word of criticism. And I don’t recall FIA boss Max Mosley offering critical comment!

On the grid at Monaco, Bernie was seen strolling around and holding court with none other than mega billionaire Chelsea owner Roman Abramovitch. When questioned Bernie advised Abramovitch was interested in F1 racing. I imagine it would be good to entice Abramovitch into F1 racing as Russia does not currently stage a Grand Prix.

Now Max Moseley has let it be known that he wanted McLaren banned for the rest of the 2007 F1 season and for the whole of the 2008 season. The FIA duly imposed a hefty $100million fine.

On 29 September 2007, a number of UK newspapers carried comments by Ecclestone in which he is reputed to have stated he would be delighted if the 2007 drivers championship was decided by Alonso and Hamilton involved in a mighty crash. This is from a man who rarely has any comment worth listening to when interviewed on the grid by Martin Brundell. I can only assume Mr Eccelstone has lost it, how else could you possibly describe a wish for two F1 cars to crash? Ecclestone thinks it would be great publicity for ‘his’ sport - rubbish, what comment would Ecclestone make if both drivers were severely injured……better publicity?

The McLaren Charade

September 13, 2007

Having watched recent Channel4 documentaries on President Bush and his cohorts financial interest and involvement with oil companies currently working in wartorn Iraq, and then Lord Coe’s company’s financial benefits from his involvement with the 2012 Olympics, I can only surmise that the £50million fine imposed on McLaren by the FIA is intended as being a means by which a Russian mega millionaire could possibly buy his way into a very successful F1 team. Let’s wait and see!

I Don’t Believe What’s Happening

September 11, 2007

Due to the McLaren-Ferrari technical information matter and the most recent FIA meeting in Paris, we now have a situation whereby Ron Dennis and McLaren have been barred from winning the F1 manufacturers championship.

Why have they been disqualified? Evidently the FIA etc believe McLaren have used Ferrari information, although no proof regarding such use this has been offered or found, hence McLaren should not have been disqualified until the use of such data has been proven. Following the line the FIA have taken, in that McLaren are ‘cheating’, then surely both drivers should have also been disqualified as their success has come about via the illegal use of information, but that hasn’t happened.

In my opinion, there has been and still is a determined effort to rid F1 motor-racing of Ron Dennis. Ecclestone stated at Monaco that he believed McLaren should have been banned for the rest of the 2007 series due to instructing Hamilton not to attempt to pass Alonso (on a track that offers few if any true overtaking places). FIA boss Max Mosley, a known fan and supporter of Ferrari has stated he wanted McLaren banned for the rest of the 2007 season and for 2008. I believe it was Mosley who dictated (very suitable word) the $100million fine, possibly in the hope that Ron Dennis would immediately disappear into the sunset!

If Ferrari want the Constructors Championship that much give it to ‘em, it won’t mean a thing now, but at least it will keep Mosley in good grace with Ferrari.

You could say the whole affair was indirectly instigated by Ferrari in the first place due to what seems to have been a lack of man-management regarding a certain member of their technical staff. It is the ‘hard done by’ Ferrari technicial who has caused the upset. Maybe Ferrari should’ve looked closer to home for the cause of the matter. I would not enjoy winning the F1 Constructors Championship on such grounds, but I’m sure Ferrari will and celebrate to excess.

What next? Ron Dennis may decide to opt out of F1 and if he does I believe Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich will buy McLaren - instigated by Ecclestone (possibly Mosley too). Alonso will move into a vacant seat at Ferrari. QPR FC now reportedly owned by Ecclestone and Briattore will be loaned players by neighbours Chelsea FC. (more…)
